They also go 'pew pew' just like in the movies*.

The uses of space data just keeps expanding. Today this includes agriculture, fighting crime (piracy, slavery, illegal fishing and illegal logging), safety at sea, earthquake prediction, weather tracking and forecasting, logistics and flight planning ... The list keeps growing.  ALL of the applications rely on the underlying data and are limited by the provision of that data.  Working to 100x the data downloaded has a highly leveraged positive impact on society which we find pretty motivational.

Highly informative
Data rates of 10Gbps are achievable today.

Highly targeted to the audience and discreet.
Just your data, just for you.  Lasers are inherently more secure than radio due to the physical beam width, quite apart from the quantum encryption possible.

Easy to book and confirm
No license needed and no interference from other transmitters, unlike radio.

Time until launch...

Not your average space laser company.

1.

We are a UK-headquartered space company.

2.

We are laser focused (pun intended) on data bottlenecks that can be resolved using laser communication.

3.

hard_at_work.png

Is there a problem here?

There will be tremendous growth in space data volume

  • Sensors produce exponentially more data, especially those with high temporal/spatial/spectral resolution.

  • Launch costs and components costs, driven by CubeSat standardisation and spin-in from other industries, continue to drop away.

  • We keep seeing record numbers being set for satellites launched.

Radio links will be a constraint for that growth:

  • Radio spectrum supply is a flat line or, in some cases, is reducing due to demand outside of the space industry.

  • Spectrum licensing limitations prevent or delay many satellite and ground control station projects.

Optical links are needed for future enablers

  • Quantum encryption will require optical links for Quantum Key Distribution (QKD).

Enabling the next generations of NewSpace ventures

All of the applications are limited by current communication solutions. Working to 100x the data from space enables novel missions, sensors and downstream application that are currently not feasible. This will help solve some of society's most pressing problems.
